Ferrari logo history, Ferrari emblem

The Ferrari logo represents a racing horse and all the time of the company existence, it has been devoted to him. The history of this horse on the emblem is very confusing. It appeared long before the emergence of the automobile company. In 1923, the company’s founder, Enzo Ferrari in the Alfa Romeo team won the race Circuito di Savio and met Count Enrico Barak, the father of the famous fighter pilot and hero of the First World Francesco Barak. It was on the fuselage of his plane where the famous rearing horse, the coat of arms of the Barak family, was depicted. Count Enrico and his wife Paolina were so impressed with the victory of the young and ambitious Enzo Ferrari that they, as strange as it sounds, gave him his luck emblem. And it really brought the owner the success. There is also a version that the horse was not really a family crest and that it appeared as a trophy on the fuselage of the aircraft. During wartime, there was a certain tradition of making marks on the plane, meaning shooted down enemies. Indeed, Francesco Barack shot down a German plane Albatros, whose pilot was from the German city of Stuttgart, and the coat of arms of the city was that same horse, but more plump than the one on the Ferrari logo. According to another version, Francesco Barack painted the horse on his aircrafts as a symbol of the fact that the pilots of his squadron had previously been in a cavalry unit, and he was the best rider. For the first time the horse appeared in the advertising and documents in 1929, but not on the cars, as they belonged to Alfa Romeo. This company can be considered as a teacher or mentor of Ferrari, Enzo gained a good experience and learned a lot from them. In the same year racer founded his own team – Scuderia Ferrari, it was its initials «SF» depicted on the logo on both sides of the horse. But cars and spare parts were produced under the Alfa Romeo brand name. In 1932 the logo appeared on Ferrari racing cars by allowance of the Alfa Romeo leadership. And only in 1946 the logo with the image of a horse were presented in the first car released by Ferrari Company. A distinctive feature of the emblem is also a yellow color, which was added by Enzo himself – it was the color of his hometown of Modena, unlike the color of the horse, which was originally black. Another interesting thing: on the Francesco Barack aircrafts the horse tail was lowered down, Enzo also changed the position of the tail, giving...

Dodge logo history, Dodge emblem

In 1900, brothers John and Horace Dodge founded their company «Dodge Brothers Incorporated», which were producing the components for cars. That time a circle with superimposed initials DB – «Dodge Brothers» served as an emblem. In November 1914 the first car company was made; it was the reason for updating the logo, which is considered as first. The emblem represented a circle with two crossed triangles, the so-called “Star of David” inside, indicating the national origin of the brothers. In the center of the star there were two crossed familiar letters DB. In 1932, the statuette of argali, a mountain sheep, was established as the emblem on the hood of the car. Since 1951, a schematic representation of a ram’s head was a new logo. There are several theories why it was a ram. According to one of them, it is believed that this is a stylized design of a coat of arms of Dodge brothers family, according to another one, the bent exhaust collector of the first Dodge car looked like a ram’s horn. In 1955, the sheep’s head was removed. The Chrysler Concern, which had Dodge under control, changed the logo; it was two boomerangs directed to the right – red and blue. This was due to the influence of the time – the active development of the space industry. Strict geometric forms and the rapid appearance of a new logo represented the commitment and movement in the future. In 1962, a new logo appeared; it was a Fratzog, which represented 3 arrowheads aimed in different directions and arranged in a triangle. The designer, creating this deltoid logo, took into account such details as the steering wheel and the center of the hub. In 1982, the logo was changed to a common Chrysler emblem – Pentastar – five-pointed star inscribed in a pentagon. But if this Chrysler logo was blue, the Dodge used the red color. In 1994, Dodge has finally become gradually return to its traditional argali. In 1996, the red emblem with a ram’s head was already present in all models. In 2010, the ram was removed from the logo again. Now the inscription «Dodge» with two oblique stripes at the end serves as an...

In the logo – two pointed upward chevrons, which are considered as a symbolic display of those gears that made Andre famous. But the logo became official only in 1919, when Andre Citroen together with the designer Jules Salomon had founded the car company “Citroen joint-stock company.” Since then, the foundation – two inverted V (or “double chevron”) – remained unchanged, only occasionally its design was transformed. Chrysler logo history, Chrysler emblem

The first Chrysler logo had appeared in 1924 on the car «Chrysler Six». On the one hand, the logo resembles the tape, which is awarded to the winners of various rural exhibitions, on the other hand – a seal wax, which was put on the letters. The author of this emblem is Oliver Clarke, who conceived it exactly as a “print”, symbolizing quality. Diagonal through this “stamp” is situated the inscription Chrysler. Also emblem is decorated with two zigzag stripes, which indicate the uppercase letter of the Company Engineer’s name – Fred Zedera. In 1950 the emblem has dramatically changed. And by the way, the Chrysler Company during its history often changed the company logo. At this stage, due to the designer Virgil Exner, Chrysler was represented by two boomerangs directed to the right – red and blue – which symbolized the look to the future, the speed and determination. It was a time of cosmic discoveries; and so the Chrysler’s logo resembled the movement of missile. From 1955 to 1961, there are versions of the logo with a variety of family coats of arms. On one of them, for example, there was represented a gold lion. In September 1962, there was introduced a new logo – Pentastar – five-pointed star inscribed in a pentagon, whose author was Robert Stanley. It is this symbol among seven hundred proposals that was selected by one of the directors of the company Lynn Townsend. He sought to find a catchy, modern, versatile and less pretentious logo at the same time. There is a theory that all five stars are the five Chrysler brands: Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth, Imperial and Airtemp. But it is not. This emblem didn’t contain any secret meaning and symbolism; it had just a “cool look.” In 80s the company used the stylized inscription «Chrysler» as a logo. In 1993 the first logo embodiment with some stylized changes was returned. In 1998, the “seal” was circled around and fashion wings were added to it. Such a return to the past and future changes were caused by the fact that the company merged with Daimler-Benz and now it was necessary to do something, so that the logo has “no interaction” with Mercedes. Since 2007, is the beginning of a new era of the company’s history, which was marked with a new logo. At this time, the most recognizable nameplate – a five-pointed star is returned. But now the logo became more coherent: five triangles joined closing the pentagon that was symbolizing strength; the star, thus became more expressive and now symbolized strength, precision and high quality of the products. In addition, the logo became more voluminous: vertices of the triangles were...
