The company was founded in 1967 in the city of Pitesti and called Uzina Autoturismul Pitesti (Pitesti Automobile Plant). Company abbreviation (UAP) was shown in the first shield-shaped Dacia logo in 1968, it is also one of Romania symbols depicted on the emblem – the eagle spread its wings on the top of the mountain.

This colorful logo has existed for 10 years and in 1978 it was made a black-and-white.

In 1991 the Dacia emblem was updated again. It is believed that he was the “mourning”, but it is not connected with the death of President Nicolae Ceausescu. Shield-shaped form remained unchanged, but the rest was removed. Now, on a black background it was simply written with a corporate font «Dacia».

In 2000, the shield was repainted in dark blue color.

In 2003 came the famous blue shield with a “flake” dragon. This element refers to the traditions of the Dacian tribe, who in ancient times lived in what is now Romania. The dragon was a totem animal of the tribe. Also a corporate font was updated.

In 2008, the company once again renewed its logo, and now it refuses familiar shield-shape. The new logo takes the form of an inverted English letter «D», on the edge of it there is a little updated script – the name of the brand Dacia in dark blue. People say that the logo looks like a bottle opener, but still does not look pretentious and modern. It is believed that silver color chosen for a new logo is not casual – it is the color of the logo Renault, because Dacia is its subsidiary. For the first time this logo was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show on the new model of Dacia Sandero.
