Mercury logo, Mercury emblem
Mercury – American car brand, which appeared in 1939, but since 2010 these cars are no longer produced.
The idea of the name belongs to Edsel Ford, the legendary Henry Ford’s son, who founded the Ford Motor Company. It was Edsel who decided to produce cars for the middle class, not as cheap as Ford, but not as expensive as Lіncoln.
Mercury is the ancient Greek God of commerce, he was clever, tricky and fast (it can be recognizable by the wings on his sandals). Logically, the first logo was a portrait of Mercury.
At the end of the 60s instead of the mythical character, there was a cat’s head with open mouth depicted on the logo. Due to the advertising, wild cat was associated with the famous model of muscle car Mercury Cougar (1967).
In the mid 80’s logo was dramatically changed, in this form it was used prior to liquidation of the brand. Three curved lines of silver color on the logo is a stylized letter “M” – a capital letter of Mercury brand. The lines are arranged on a black background and circled in a wide circle.
