Chrysler logo history, Chrysler emblem
The first Chrysler logo had appeared in 1924 on the car «Chrysler Six». On the one hand, the logo resembles the tape, which is awarded to the winners of various rural exhibitions, on the other hand – a seal wax, which was put on the letters. The author of this emblem is Oliver Clarke, who conceived it exactly as a “print”, symbolizing quality. Diagonal through this “stamp” is situated the inscription Chrysler. Also emblem is decorated with two zigzag stripes, which indicate the uppercase letter of the Company Engineer’s name – Fred Zedera.
In 1950 the emblem has dramatically changed. And by the way, the Chrysler Company during its history often changed the company logo. At this stage, due to the designer Virgil Exner, Chrysler was represented by two boomerangs directed to the right – red and blue – which symbolized the look to the future, the speed and determination. It was a time of cosmic discoveries; and so the Chrysler’s logo resembled the movement of missile.
From 1955 to 1961, there are versions of the logo with a variety of family coats of arms. On one of them, for example, there was represented a gold lion.
In September 1962, there was introduced a new logo – Pentastar – five-pointed star inscribed in a pentagon, whose author was Robert Stanley. It is this symbol among seven hundred proposals that was selected by one of the directors of the company Lynn Townsend. He sought to find a catchy, modern, versatile and less pretentious logo at the same time. There is a theory that all five stars are the five Chrysler brands: Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth, Imperial and Airtemp. But it is not. This emblem didn’t contain any secret meaning and symbolism; it had just a “cool look.”
In 80s the company used the stylized inscription «Chrysler» as a logo.
In 1993 the first logo embodiment with some stylized changes was returned.
In 1998, the “seal” was circled around and fashion wings were added to it. Such a return to the past and future changes were caused by the fact that the company merged with Daimler-Benz and now it was necessary to do something, so that the logo has “no interaction” with Mercedes.
Since 2007, is the beginning of a new era of the company’s history, which was marked with a new logo. At this time, the most recognizable nameplate – a five-pointed star is returned. But now the logo became more coherent: five triangles joined closing the pentagon that was symbolizing strength; the star, thus became more expressive and now symbolized strength, precision and high quality of the products. In addition, the logo became more voluminous: vertices of the triangles were lifted closer to the center. The Senior Vice President of Design Trevor Creed had been working on these innovations.
But in 2009, the logo changed again. The company comes back to the past. This time they brought back a little modernized wing of the ‘90s; the wings became more flattened and elongated. There is no “seal” placed in the center, but there is the inscription «Chrysler». It is the logo that is used today.
